National Institute of Technology Durgapur

NIT (National Institute of Technology) Durgapur, established 1960 as REC Durgapur and upgraded to NIT in 2002, is West Bengal's NIT. Located on a 187-acre fully-residential campus in the industrial city of Durgapur, NIT Durgapur is known for strong metallurgy and core engineering heritage with steady CS placements (~13 LPA avg). Established by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru himself.

Among the original 17 RECs. Durgapur is part of India's steel belt - SAIL Durgapur Steel Plant is nearby. Foundation laid by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1960.
