Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), founded in 1949 in Chromepet by C. Rajam, is the second campus of Anna University and is renowned as one of the very few engineering colleges in India offering specialized undergraduate programs in Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, and Production Technology. Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam studied here in the Aeronautical Engineering department.

MIT Chromepet is uniquely positioned as one of the only state govt colleges with full-fledged Aeronautical / Automobile / Production specializations - making it a niche destination for aerospace and core engineering aspirants.
